Barack Obama, President of the United States
President Barack Obama, Smoking his drug of choice, the killer tobacco
President Barack Obama, inducted into the Free 420 Now.com Hall of Shame on Friday, March 27th, 2009, for his flippant attitude towards the thousands of people who are currently incarcerated because of the United States government’s marijuana policy. His disparaging remarks were made in the White House at his first on-line town hall meeting on Thursday. He apparently felt obligated to speak about the question of marijuana legalization because there were so many questions about it posted on the website where citizens posted their questions. Instead of giving an intelligent answer, and clearly stating his views on the subject of legalization, and whether he believes the U.S. Policy is just, he chose to make the issue appear silly and side-step the issue completely by putting it in the ridiculous context of whether or not marijuana legalization should be used to grow our economy.
Chuckling, the president said, “I don’t know what this says about the online audience,” when he mentioned that the marijuana legalization question was among the top questions asked, “We want to make sure it was answered. The answer is no — I don’t think that is a good strategy to grow our economy.”
It was an obvious move to give the typical political politician non-answer to a question that affects millions of Americans he obviously doesn’t respect, and is a clear indication that a more sensible drug policy, or even the discussion of it, is not on President Obama’s list of promised “Change”. In other words “four more years of Bush”.
Senator Charles Grassley, R-IA
Senator Charles Grassley, R-IA
Senator Charles Grassley, R-IA, inducted into the Free 420 Now.com Hall of Shame, on Sunday, March 22nd, 2009, for his criticism of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, for reaffirming that he will not authorize federal justice resources to target or prosecute medical cannabis users or providers that are compliant with state law.
Grassley, a long-time opponent of marijuana law reform stated ignorantly, “The first rule of medicine, first do no harm, is being violated by the attorney general by his decision.”
Apparently Senator Grassley has not read the reports of countless studies that have shown that medical marijuana not only helps the patients who use it, but also that marijuana is less harmful than most prescription man-made pharmaceuticals that are on the market today. Of course why should Grassley care about facts, he is a politician.
